Never let a crisis go to waste

November 24, 2008

So sayeth Rahm Emanuel. “This crisis provides the opportunity for us to do things we couldn’t do before.” Watch him yourself. And here.

Is he saying they’re glad the economy is tanking? It’s certainly true that the economic crisis helped propel Obama into office. And certainly Obama is a great fan of FDR’s, and would welcome the opportunity to bring government to bear on what he sees as inequities among societal groups. And certainly the media likes to compare Obama to FDR, being chosen in a time of crisis. One could also argue that most revolutionary changes in government occur during times of crisis. Will that be the case this time? Only time will tell.
